The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. estimates that close to 1 million full time workers in the United States are heavy drinkers.  Employees who habitually consume excessive amounts of alcohol may frequently be tardy, absent from work, suffer from health problems and pose a great risk of harming themselves and others.  Depending on the test method used, the presence of alcohol can be detected from 8 hours to 80 hours.

Method: The presence of alcohol can be detected by breath or urine.  An alcohol breath test is used to detect the level of alcohol that is present in an individuals' blood.  This is referred to as blood alcohol concentration or BAC.  An alcohol breath test can detect alcohol usage in the past eight hours.  The EtS is a laboratory-based urine test that will detect alcohol usage in the last eighty hours.
