The National Criminal Database is a
database compiled by private agencies collecting information from a variety of
sources. Reporting sources often include: county records, Department
of Corrections, Administrative Office of the Court, and sex offender registries.
There may be felonies, misdemeanors or some traffic violations included in the
database depending on the reporting source. Not all states or counties
report information to database providers and criminal information contained in
the databases may not include complete case information.
The National Criminal Database search is useful in providing a broader scope to
a criminal search by including a greater geographic search area; however, it is
not intended to replace a physical search of court records. This search
should be used in conjunction with a County Criminal Background Check. The
Nationwide Criminal Database search should not be confused with a National Crime
Information Center search (NCIC). NCIC searches are available only to law
The Statewide Criminal Database uses the same resources as the Nationwide
Criminal Database search but limits the search perimeter to only one state.
